- BUT one that also contains an illuminating aspect of the topic or person
- ex.
- George Washington and the cherry tree
- the story was fabricated but the idea that Washington valued honesty is valid
- Alexander the Great and Bophesus the horse
- Alexander may not have actually subdued the wild horse, but the story reflects Alexander's unique leadership qualities
