How to insert images into the Lesson Planning Wiki

How to add Images

Upload

• go to Upload file page
  • add data
  • confirm licensing
    • DO NOT USE UNLICENSED OR OTHER COPYRIGHT PROPERTY WITHOUT PERMISSION
  • add this code [[File:|500px|border|right|used by permission]]
  • parameters may include:

[[File:|250px|border|right|caption]] [[File:|500px|frame|center|caption]]

• • note: some parameters negate the caption and image resizing, so you may have to tweak them
• Frame and resize don't work together
  • so use thumb instead of frame
    • see [[1]]

InstantCommons

• MediaWiki allows for placement of Wikimedia (the database of uploaded images and files on Wikipedia) images
• when opening an image file on Wikipeida:
  • click on the image, which will display the "File" page for the image
  • be sure to review and note the license type
  • click on the upper right tab "View on Commons"
  • select "Use this file on a wiki" which open the dialog "Use this file on a wiki"
    • thumbnail code: note that this code tags for File
      • this code displays the thumbnail and will open to full screen on click
    • image code: note that this code tags for Image
      • this code displays the original image file, so it will likely need to be resized
