Notes and instructions for use of the US Constitution Study Guide

Page status

  • as of 4/26/22, the original Constitution and Bill of Rights entries are complete
    • this includes amended sections of the original Constitution which are grayed out
    • current focus is on Amendments 11-27 (text posted, analysis to be developed)
  • future projects include:
    • adding footnote references and sources (see Amendment 1 for an example)
    • adjusting formatting per user feedback
  • starting 3/12/26, the popup system has changed to native system in order to allow for VE entries

Purpose of the U.S. Constitution Popup Study Guide

This annotated guide to the text of the Constitution is designed for students and teachers for

  • easy-to-consume definitions, explanations and background information
  • that do not require additional clicks or page navigation
  • instead, study guide tips will "popup" upon cursor or mouse hover of bolded words or phrasesbolded words or phrases from the text of the U.S. Constitution

Notes on the format and use of the Constitution Popup Study Guide

  • hover your mouse or cursor over dotted underlined or bolded wordsSummaries, explanations and definitions will show in these hover boxes for popup summaries, explanations and definitions
  • grayed-out text was changed by subsequent Constitutional amendmenti.e., original text was changed by later amendments, so that original text is no longer law
  • Section headers that appear in the table of contents are in bold by default but do not have hover popup notes
  • If the hover box text is cut off in your browser view, scroll your browser up/ down to reposition it
  • This article uses [bracketed parenthetical notes]
    for parenthetical text that is not in the Constitution
    • the bracketed text is for table of contents
    • for additional information and is not from the Constitution itself
    • bracketed information in Article, Section and Amendment headings are there so that they will appear in the Table of Contents for easy reference
    • where the brackets contain the word, "summary" after Article, Section and Amendment titles, the hover popup will provide general outlines and purposes of those segments of the Constitution
    that are not from the text of the Constitution.
